We have Mass to worship and to receive God’s grace, to unify with him and with other worshipers through the sacrament of the Eucharist.
He was a human being, so it was an act that took place in history and is therefore past. He is God, who is outside of time and lives in the eternal present: past and future are always present to him. This means that the actions of Christ on Calvary and on Easter Sunday morning are eternal acts that can be made present again by the power of the Spirit. This is what happens in the Eucharist. The power of Calvary—the sacrifice that takes away sins, heals, and transforms—becomes present and available to us. It can be applied to our need.
Many questions get asked by visitors to church, newcomers to town, and friends and neighbors of our members. Here’s a list of questions that may help you understand what prayer is and why it is so important in the Christian life.
Our church, founded in 1941, has grown into a healthy and vibrant congregation. We currently have more than 600 active members and regular attendees. Our 07:00 a.m. service averages around 60 people; our 09:00 a.m. service usually has about 250 in attendance.
We have two worship services each Sunday, both held in St. Mary's Cathedral parish. Our 7:00 a.m. service is relaxed, featuring familiar hymns and piano accompaniment. Our 9:00 a.m. service includes a choir and a children’s time. Both services offer the celebration of communion every Sunday, and all believers are welcome to participate.
Our 11:00 am mass service is held at St. Augustine's parish in Belgravia
We have quite a mixture of people at St. Mary's Cathedral. Our congregation truly spans the ages, from newborns to folks in their 80s. You’ll find just about every type of person here – married, single, divorced, widowed – professionals, workers, retired – life-long Kimberley residents.
Not at all!. We are a church with different backgrounds woven together by God’s grace.
No! Dressing up is not a requirement to celebrate mass at St. Mary's Cathedral. Some do wear their “Sunday best” but you’re also likely to see someone in smart casual attire such as shirt and jeans. We believe the most important part about Sunday morning mass is showing up, ready to worship God.
We strive to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere at St. Mary's Cathedral. We greet each other so everyone feels welcomed; we share announcements and church news; we sing and listen to our choir perform beautiful music; we share the congregation’s joys and concerns and lift them to God in prayer; we read the Bible and talk about it through the sermon; we collect an offering to further God’s work; and we take communion weekly.
No! Only Catholics who have received their First Holy Communion sacrament may take communion at each mass service, regardless of location. Children or adults who have not yet received the appropriate sacrament may go up for a blessing, they simply cross their arms in front of their chest to indicate to the priest that they wish to be blessed. The Priest will then say a quick prayer over them instead of giving communion.
Please consult the St. Mary's Cathedral parish office or bulletin for dates and times of adult instruction classes.
We are committed to Jesus Christ, the Bible, and the Great Commission.
